Finally there: Debian package for Initng 0.4.7
December 11th 2005 @ 5:45 pm linux, initng, debian

Good things come to those who wait.
I’m very glad to announce the Debian package for Initng 0.4.7. It has been a long haul, but I’m very very busy with university at the moment.
With this release there is a major change: The syntax of .i files has changed a lot. This means, you can’t use .i files anymore you’ve written for older version. Don’t forget to update them! If this are .i files which are important andnot in Initng yet - send them to me and I will add the upstream.
There are also good news for Ubuntu users: This package should run on your boxes without any special tweaking. For I can’t test it I need feedback if it works or not.
You can find this package as normal on Alioth.

Another thing: One more time there was an API change - this means you probably can’t reboot the fist time after you updated a running Initng. Keep this in mind. Except from this issue there should be no real problems.

EDIT: There were two bugfixing releases since this post - they should fix most problems with typos and wrong paths. Please report any problem you find.

Changelog of the package:

initng (0.4.7-1) experimental; urgency=low

* New upstream release. Highlights from the release notes:
- gen_system_runlevel got some work to probe existing services when
migrating from sysvinit.
- Fixed hot-reload
- ngc -L is now more beautiful
- Lots of bugfixing
- Ability to choose runlevel again with grub runlevel:
- New .i parser syntax, more hard, and requires a ‘;’
- i_parser generates niceer errors
* Should be fully compatible to Ubuntu now - no more changes needed
* More stuff I don’t remember
